The thought

For people who'd love this music
but don't yet have a way in.

There are people in this city who would love an evening of raga but have never had a doorway. They've grown up around classical music or felt curious about it from the outside, and the gate has felt far away.

Baithak Sadhana is an evening designed to be that doorway — chai first, an instrument's story told plainly, then a raga immersion the way it's meant to be received. Phones surrendered at the door. Candles lit. Time slowed.

What the evening is

A flow, not a schedule.

0:00 — 0:15
Arrival
Phones surrendered at the door. Chai poured. Settling in.
0:15 — 0:35
The instrument's story
The artist shares the origin, lineage, and anatomy of their instrument. Demonstrates a few phrases. The room can ask, the artist shows.
0:35 — 0:45
Transition meditation
A gentle settling. Eye masks on. Lying down.
0:45 — 1:45
Rāga immersion
Pure contemplative listening. The artist plays the rāga in full. Your only task is to be there.
1:45 — 1:50
Closing meditation
A gentle return.
1:50 — 2:10
Integration chai
Quiet conversation. What was noticed. What was newly understood.
What's a little different

Two small things,
both Baithak-shaped.

One
Phones surrendered at the door
Not requested. Surrendered. It's the only contract The Baithak has, and it makes everything that follows possible.
Two
A short curiosity segment
Before the immersion — about fifteen minutes — where the artist tells the story of their instrument. So when you lie down for the rāga, you know something of what you're about to receive.
